Could Have Been Organized Better But Still Excellent

My feeling is that this book could have been organized better. The guy that gave this review 1 star was a bit harsh I thought the information was solid. With that being said I gave the book four stars because of it's organization based on it's title. The title is misleading it says 100 defending practices, but should read 100 defending drills and small sided games. I say this because there is no progession from small side to full side numbers. So you can't really follow how you start small with these topics and end up full side with a game stressing the necessary coaching points. If your familiar with any of Terzis Athanasios's work he does this excellently. When Terzis says practices that's what you get so I don't like the use of the word "practices" maybe his use of the word means fundamentals I don't know. So when I hear that word that's what I expect to see. Either way not a big deal that's my only knock other wise the drills are execellent it gives good framework to add your own variations the way you see fit. If your on top of all these defending topics already, and just need some fresh drills or games this is the book for you. IF YOU HAVE NO CLUE ABOUT DEFENDING AND YOUR LOOKING FOR COMPREHENSIVE PROGESSIVE PRACTICE SESSIONS THIS IS **NOT** THE BOOK FOR YOU.

Not very good

I bought this book to expand my soccer knowledge and preparation. I bought this book used, but it looked brand new and after reviewing it, I can tell why...it is not very helpful. The first exercise states:
"Player complete a set of four runs.
On each run the player must show the mannequin inside.
Players must angle their approach to the mannequin and work at realistic match pace.
Player must hold the pressure for 2/3 seconds on each mannequin"
Above these instructions is a picture of 6 players and 8 mannequins on a pitch with no indication of what the "run" would look like or the "pressure" that would be applied. All the 100 drills read this way and I felt that there was some important information missing that helped the drill to make sense.
It's no wonder the previous owner discarded it without much use. I will too!

small sided games are the way forward

In the game of soccer defending is a critical task, but it is not stressed enough. Here Michal Beale shows coaches how to teach defending through simple games.
