Amazing book!

This book needs to be read by all. It explains why we treat the planet like we do and just how uneducated most of us are about the planet we live on. If we all had to read this book in school the ecosystem would be in a very different place, a better place. I love Orr's writing style, direct and to the point. This is one of my top 10 books right now.

I really like this collection - it has a great breadth and depth. I like the systems based approach proposed by Fritjof Capra and there's a great essay by Wendell Berry. Several other great thinkers, too.

About the Author
Beth Pateman is Interim Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Professor of Health Education in the Institute for Teacher Education, College of Education, University of Hawaii at Manoa (UHM). She received her H.S.D. and M.P.H. from Indiana University, with emphases in school and college health and public health education. Dr. Pateman has taught health education in grades K-8 and at the university level. Before coming to Hawaii, Dr. Pateman worked with the Division of Adolescent and School Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, where she served as the CDC Project Officer for the first School Health Policies and Programs Study (SHPPS) in 1994. Dr. Pateman also taught in the School of Public Health, Emory University, and in the Department of Health Science Education, University of Florida. She received the Distinguished Service Award from the American School Health Association in 2000.

Cynthia Symons is a Professor of Health Education in the Department of Adult Counseling, Health, and Vocational Education at Kent State University. She received her D.Ed. and M.Ed. in Health Education from The Pennsylvania State University and earned her undergraduate degree from Lock Haven University, also in Pennsylvania. She has a Permanent Teaching Certificate in health and physical education in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania (Grades K-12) and is a Certified Health Education Specialist. Dr. Symons received the Distinguished Service Award from the American School Health Association in 1994, and served as the President of that professional association in 2001-2002. She has received the Distinguished Teaching Award from Kent State University, and was recognized by the Commonwealth of Kentucky as an official “Kentucky Colonel” for collaborative health promotion initiatives on behalf of children and youth. Dr. Symons has taught health and physical education at grades 7-12, and returned to the ranks of public school teaching (grades K- 3 health education) during a sabbatical leave from her current position at Kent State University. In addition to publishing in refereed journals, and presenting at numerous state and national meetings, she collaborated in the development of "Children's Literature for Health Awareness" a resource text published by Scarecrow Press.

Susan K. Telljohann, HSD, CHES, is a Professor of Health Education at The University of Toledo. She received her doctoral degree in health sciences from Indiana University with an emphasis on school and college health education. Her experience in health education spans over 25 years, including health instruction from the junior high to the university level. She has done research and published over 60 articles on health education in professional journals, presented over 50 papers at professional conferences, and is the co-author of the HealthSmart K-12 curriculum and Teach and Reach health series published by ETR Associates. She served as the President of the American School Health Association from 2000-2001, was the Contributing Editor for the Teaching Ideas Column in the American Journal of Health Education, and has served on many professional health education committee throughout her professional career. She served on the Board of Directors for the American Association of Health Education and is on the National Health Education Standards Revision Committee. She is the recipient of several honors and awards, including the Distinguished Service Award from both the American School Health Association and the American Association of Health Education, The Howe Award from the American School Health Association, The University of Toledo Outstanding Teacher Award, the Phi Delta Kappa Educator of the Year Award, the Patty Outstanding Alumni Award from Indiana University, and the Ohio Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance Outstanding Young Professional Award.

The Wishing Tree by William Faulkner was my daughter's favorite book when she was younger. Was happy that I found it on this site to give it to her this Christmas (she will be 40 years old this coming August!) She was very excited!

A children's book by William Faulkner (!?)

Faulkner has always been interested in the perspective of children. The Sound and the Fury and several of his short stories ("That Evening Sun", "Uncle Willy", and "That Will be Fine" come to mind) have delved into the psyche of children as they observe the adult world. However, this curious book, written in 1927 for his future step-daughter, is written expressly for a child. As would be expected, Faulkner's foray into children's literature is a marked departure from tradional books for children. In this book, a sort of cross between Alice in Wonderland and the Wizard of Oz, the reader meets not only the child protagonist and her childhood friends, but an ageing Confederate veteran, a Black nanny and her disreputable husband. Not only do the children pursue the elusive wishing tree, but get to witness marital strife and the delusional ranting from an old man. I doubt seriously if this book, replete with sexual and racial stereotypes, would ever find its way into a present day children's reading room.
To be fair to Faulkner, this was written with no idea for publication, as a present to an eight year old girl on her birthday. Regardless of its literary merit, it has come to the light of day as well as to the mention of critics, and through them, has taken on a more serious aspect, something the author could never have forecast while writing it.

Unforgettable

I read this book when I was 8 (more than 20 years ago) and I've never forgotten it. It was to me a fascinating story, a fable, really. And when I look at it today, I can see how philosophical it is. Still today I remember how I should get out of bed on my birthday!

Both of their stories are told in different chapters in their own words and from their own perspectives and I think that is what makes this story so much more intriguing. Their love seemed solid, and their story is sexy and exciting. It is a love story. Alexander's love for Elena has grown more deeply as he contemplated proposing marriage. Like the other installments, this story is sexy yet intense but has more in depth elements that makes this story even more interesting than the first two installments. I enjoyed the depth of descriptions as this story was crafted out so nicely and the vivid images and dialogue especially during the intimate scenes was a plus. This installment has a twist that was unexpected as Elena's love is tested when secrets spill out regarding the truth about a very dark matter. Elena finds out about something that she had not unknown and discovers the consequences that follow.

I loved all three of the books it was awesome it had the right amount of sex , the storyline was amazing and kept flowing good I loved how all three books never changed the chat trees and stuck true to the beginning of this trilogy Elena and Alex is the best book couple ever

Yes! This!

Alex and Elana are complicated people and at times their emotion is raw and real, like people we might actually know. The way you're pulled into this book is slyly and suddenly, a few pages in and you realize you like the characters and you want to know what happens. Before this book, it had been years since my last marathon reading session. Every once in a while a book comes along that grabs me and holds me until it has thoroughly exhausted me...and that's usually when I lose my page.

In this case, I was reading a digital copy through my kindle and the screen just went off so..yay technology! I would say I read a lot, and I've read my fair share in this genre, this book is unique, as it's the final in a series and having read another in the series, I already knew the characters, I had been waiting to see what happened with them. Much like binge watching a show with on demand viewing, I binged on this book.

You too will be pulled in, I didn't always read this genre but I enjoy it, as books, almost regardless of subject matter, will pull me out of my current world - including first world problems - and transport me to the world created by the author in the pages of the latest novel in my hands. Alexander and Elana's world is fun to be lost in, the two are clever, share a delicious banter and much like myself and people I know, are prone to whimsy as well as scandalous behavior...but then, that's why I read it.

If you're a binge reader, I recommend you start with the 1st book, take a week off work and just read, my friend. I for one, am glad that I can speed read with comprehension, it's a skill I'm glad I acquired and continue to work on, I can ingest so much information! One of the special things about this book is that the way our characters speak might have you googling for definitions - I love their vocabulary!

I have enjoyed these books, and if you're reading this review, you're already interested so pull the trigger and order them. You won't be disappointed...well, you might be, when it's over. All good things must come to an end...right? Sigh.

I love this wonderful idea!

I’ve read quite a few books about self-mastering and self-improving. But this book suggests something new I never read about. The main thing of author’s idea is the routine. So, if a person each day moves through some routine, this action becomes habitual and enjoyable. You can choose one or more routines that fit you, and sticking to them makes your life better. What I wrote is only very simplified description of what is in the book. I think you’ll read the book with great interest considering it is written in an easy conversational style. It is impossible to see result in a short time, so the author calls for action by formula: Knowledge + Desire + Action = Success.

About the Author

For Elaine N. Marieb, R.N., Ph.D., taking the needs of nursing and other allied health students into account has always been an integral part of her teaching style. Dr. Marieb began her teaching career at Springfield College, where she taught anatomy & physiology to physical education majors. She then joined the faculty of the Biological Science Division of Holyoke Community College in 1969 after receiving her Ph.D. in zoology from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. While teaching at Holyoke Community College, Dr. Marieb pursued her nursing education, which culminated in a Master of Science degree with a clinical specialization in gerontology from the University of Massachusetts. This experience, along with continual feedback from health care professionals (including generations of former students taught by Dr. Marieb), has inspired the unique perspective and accessibility for which this book is known.

Dr. Marieb’s commitment to students extends beyond teaching and writing. Recognizing the challenges students face, Dr. Marieb contributes to the New Directions Program at Holyoke Community College by funding a staffed drop-in center and by providing several full-tuition scholarships each year for women who are returning to college after a hiatus or attending college for the first time. She also funds the E. N. Marieb Science Research Awards at Mount Holyoke College (which promotes research by undergraduate science majors) and has underwritten renovation and updating of one of the biology labs in Mount Holyoke’s Clapp Laboratory. Recognizing the severe national shortage of nursing faculty, Dr. Marieb also underwrites the Nursing Scholars of the Future Grant Program at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

In 1994, Dr. Marieb received the Benefactor Award from the National Council for Resource Development, American Association of Community Colleges, which recognizes her ongoing sponsorship of student scholarships, faculty teaching awards, and other academic contributions to Holyoke Community College. In May 2000, the science building at Holyoke Community College was named in her honor.

Dr. Marieb is an active member of the Human Anatomy and Physiology Society (HAPS) and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). Additionally, while actively engaged as an author, Dr. Marieb serves as a consultant for the Benjamin Cummings Interactive Physiology� CD-ROM series. This text—Essentials of Human Anatomy & Physiology, Tenth Edition–is the latest expression of her commitment to the needs of the students pursuing the study of A&P.

When not involved in academic pursuits, Dr. Marieb is a world traveler and has vowed to visit every country on this planet. Shorter term, she serves on the board of directors of the famed Marie Selby Botanical Gardens and on the scholarship committee of the Women’s Resources Center of Sarasota County. She is an enthusiastic supporter of the local arts and enjoys a competitive match of doubles tennis.

READ THE DETAILS

If you are looking for the copy with the CD-ROM MAKE SURE it says CD_ROM in the description. I bought this under the assumption since it was a "new" book that the CD-ROM would come with it. Found out I was wrong. So now I have to spend more money to get the CD-ROM which is about $35. The book it's self is a pretty good book. Just don't get the wrong item.

Anatomy even a 60 year old can understand

This is required reading for a class I'm taking. The content is well organized. Language is friendly. Easy-to-understand illustrations and tables. Helpful self-tests and summaries are included with each chapter. The companion online module, Mastering A&P, is fantastic. There are a lot of planned redundancies between all the study aids, which I really appreciate; they help me identify what's most important.

LOTS of pictures with insight and instead of what's connected to what, what chemical reactions cause what....
talks about environmental influence and some critical thinking !!! genetics was left out but probably the point...
better interactive on the web at various universities .... good luck with your course !
