easy instructions and cute little critters

I have almost every sock-critter, make a monster, plushie book out there (or have previewed them at the library) and this is one of my favorites.

The only thing that bothered me was having to go to Kinkos to enlarge the patterns, but they are so free-hand looking that someone with more artistic experience than myself could do it that way.

Great basic book

This book is really fun. The animals are typical but atypical enough to be interesting and fun. The patterns are easy and I have used them to help teach younger children to do basic sewing stitches. For some reason, people really like getting these guys as gifts and they are basic enough to allow you to embellish or add to (several of mine got wires in the arms and legs to make them poseable.)

Too fun and way too cute!

I love this book! It's so much fun just to look through and all of the animals are so cute!
I love so many of them I wish I could sit down for days stitching them. But so far I've only made the panda bear.
The patterns in the book are more like drawings. So either sketch, trace or copy your images. I sketched a rough copy in simiar quirky shape to the one designed in the book. It worked well for me and stitching by hand took about two days.

A side note I left the stuffing hole at the neck. But it would be better to stuff at the side. Because it's rather difficult turning the arms and legs right-side out. I had to use a pair of tweezers to do so. I also used felt and thick thread for the eyes instead of buttons. Keep this in mind when making any of these toys for young children. All of the other steps can be follwed as is.

could use more illustrations... considering the subject matter

This guide could use more illustrations... considering the subject matter is most easily explained visually. A picture is worth a hundred words. A fabulous book on architecture is Eyewitness Companions Architecture by Jonathan Glancey.

Exactly what I was looking for.

I've been eyeing this book for a while on the author's website but it didn't have an adequate description and no preview so I waited. Amazon lets me return if I don't like a book so I grabed it here. It arrived in 2 days with Amazon prime so I'm happy. It has just what it says. 101 medicines for health and life....from diabetes to financial success. He also has the Yoruba and English name for the plant. It is based on Odus so he has the odus and the Ofo ase included. It is geared toward Awos (Babalawos and Iyanifas) and not the lay person. You would need to do what Awos do when making the medicine so if you don't know what that is.... It's not for you. Its not a book of herbal teas or a book about quick spells that anyone can do.. So don't think you are going to buy the book and play priest without training. You wouldn't even know what you are looking at.

Jiri George Drobny, educated at the Technical University in Prague in Chemical Engineering (processing of plastics and elastomers) at the Institute of Polymer Science of the University of Akron (physics and engineering of polymers), and at Shippensburg State University (management and finance). His career spans over 35 years in the rubber and plastics processing industry in Europe, the US and Canada, mainly in R&D with senior and executive responsibilities. Currently, he is President of Drobny Polymer Associates an international consulting firm specialising in fluoropolymer science and technology, radiation processing and elastomer technology. Active as an educator, lecturer, author, and as technical and scientific translator. He is member of the Society of Plastic Engineers, American Chemical Society and SAMPE and is listed in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Plastics and Polymers, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the East. He resides in New Hampshire.

About the Author
The late James Stewart received his M.S. from Stanford University and his Ph.D. from the University of Toronto. He did research at the University of London and was influenced by the famous mathematician George Polya at Stanford University. Stewart was most recently Professor of Mathematics at McMaster University, and his research field was harmonic analysis. Stewart was the author of a best-selling calculus textbook series published by Cengage Learning, including CALCULUS, CALCULUS: EARLY TRANSCENDENTALS, and CALCULUS: CONCEPTS AND CONTEXTS, as well as a series of precalculus texts.

Harder than Larson's but definitely worth it. Every major topic in multivariate calculus is covered concisely. I suggest getting a supplemental text (such as "Div, Grad, Curl, and All That: An Informal Text on Vector Calculus" by H. M. Schey) because it will help you understand the concepts very well (which is what makes multivariate calculus so hard).

Can replace the main textbook if you're careful.

I'm in a multivariable class where most of the grade is tests and quizzes -- no homework is collected. A huge reason you snag the textbook in a class is to get the homework problems -- many of the tedious derivations of particular postulates or theorems are easy to find online. I still own the textbook -- Stewart's Early Transcendentals is good from single to multivariable calculus -- but I find that this companion study guide is the thing I'm referencing and dropping into my backpack far more than the large, unwieldy textbook. It gives concepts and examples for each chapter far more concisely, and paired with good note-taking habits in class make the larger textbook largely unnecessary. This text should be considered indispensable to students in a multivariable calculus course, and can replace the textbook entirely in situations where a professor does not assign homework.

Enjoyed this book. Both the hero and heroine had best friends that were funny and added to the story without taking away from the main characters. Funny dialogue and no horrible, awful, bitter fighting with stupid childish misunderstandings.

The CEO's Accidental Bride

Kaitlin Saville is being forced to leave the only real home she has had since before starting college. As an orphan with no family she had been uprooted a lot in her life. She would just like to have a sense of history, of belonging somewhere, and she thought she had that in her apartment in New York. She had learned from her childhood that if she was very good people wouldn't give her away. So losing her job and her apartment makes her feel like she is being given away once again. She needs to prove herself as being good at something so that someone will keep her.

Zach Harper, the CEO of the company that inadvertently caused Kaitlin to be fired is informing her that their marriage is legally binding. The fake marriage ceremony that they had participated in Las Vegas didn't stay in Las Vegas. He needs her to sign the divorce papers and he will make it worth her while. Kaitlin seeing an opportunity to rebuild her architectural reputation blackmails him into giving her a job. Zach and Kaitlin agree that this won't be a real marriage, but one of convenience until they both get what they want. Who will be able to outmaneuver, outlast, and outplay the other to be the last one standing? Let the games begin.

The CEO's Accidental Bride is a lively, absorbing tale with a manipulative hero who meets his match in a sassy heroine. I enjoyed the chemistry between Zach and Kaitlin, the way they tried to one up the other; I also enjoyed the down to earth aspect of their personalities. These two flirted so well together that you were cheering for them to finally come together. I liked the way Zach ultimately changed Kaitlin's mind about the building, yes it was a bit manipulative. Zach opened himself up on another level and let Kaitlin see why she shouldn't change the building so dramatically. It was almost the only thing that would work on someone who placed so much value on heritage.

The CEO's Accidental Bride had the characters noticing and embracing their differences in each other. Both characters changed over the course of the book as well as growing to love one another. Kaitlin had been more selfish to begin with looking to prove herself to others so that they would keep her. Zach learned to compromise without giving up who he really is; perhaps even sacrificing a piece of his company too. The CEO's Accidental Bride actually made me a bit misty because of what Zach did for Kaitlin. I, for one, look forward to Ms. Dunlop's next romance

Just Ok, bit boring

This book had so much potential. Somewhere along the way it became tedious and boring. I forced myself to finish reading it, but I really didn't care about the ending one way or the other.

To be fair I don't usually enjoy when a big part of the story is based on getting revenge. This book was unique in that it was the h in the position/ having power to get revenge on the H.

I thought Katie was immature and selfish and Zach was no prize either.

The best friends of main characters.. start out as great supporting characters, they were funny and added to the story. BUT as the story continued I found them a distraction... I actually cared more about the supporting characters.

Good introduction, not too deep

At a first glance using the Look Inside feature, this book looked like it would be great for me at starting a new hobby of woodcarving. I read the book the first night it came, and it certainly provided good tips, but didn't really do more than scratch the surface. It has many patterns for the different types of woodcarving, line, relief carving, birds, figures, etc... and introduces each type very vaguely. I was hoping for a little more information on technique, but I suppose that will come with practice.

Look elsewhere for a beginners handbook

Do not waste your money. While the authors love for carving is evident, calling this a beginner's handbook is misleading. Very little of the book is dedicated to actual carving tools and technique, most of the book is about carving clubs.

A collection of patterns

The patterns in this book would make a fine, if sometimes ambitious, list for the novice carver. There's not much instruction here, though. The basic cutting strokes are explained, in brief, but the novice will find themselves at a loss for specifics. There are a number of better books from beginners, like The Complete Book of Woodcarving: Everything You Need to Know to Master the Craft or for those more interested in simple whittling, The Little Book of Whittling: Passing Time on the trail, on the Porch, and Under the Stars (Woodcarving Illustrated Books). In the end, of course, there's no substitute for actually sitting down and having someone show you how.

This is the first study to cover cinemas from Iran to Morocco. Nine essays present the region's major national cinemas, devoting special attention to the work of directors who have given image and voice to dissent from political regimes, from patriarchal customs, from fundamentalist movements, and from the West. These country essays are complemented by in-depth discussions of eighteen films that have been selected for both their excellence and their critical engagement with pressing current issues. The introduction provides a comprehensive overview of filmmaking throughout the region, including important films produced outside the national cinemas. The long history of Iranian cinema, its international renown, and the politics of directors confronting the state, earns it a special place in this volume. The other major emphasis is on the Israel/Palestine conflict, featuring films by Palestinian directors, Israelis, and an Egyptian working in Syria.

Nineteen authors collaborated on this book, among them Walter Armbrust, Roy Armes, Kevin Dwyer, Eric Egan, Nurith Gertz, Lina Khatib, Florence Martin, and Nadia Yaqub. About half of the contributors are film scholars; the others range across literary studies and the social sciences to two film directors and a novelist. Beyond differences in disciplinary orientation, there is considerable variation among contributors in the perspectives that inform their writing. They offer an illuminating range of approaches to the cinemas of the region.

The book is richly illustrated with posters of the featured films, photos of their directors at work, and stills illustrating critical arguments in the film essays.

JOSEF GUGLER is Professor Emeritus of Sociology at the University of Connecticut, where he continues to teach on the cinemas of the Middle East and Africa. A late convert to film studies, he is the author of African Film: Re-Imagining a Continent. He served as a member of the jury for long fiction films at Pan Africa International, Montreal, 2010.
