In my opinion this is one of the best books on digital signal processing for beginners. It presents a clear and intuitive explanation of all the fundamental concepts needed for more advanced studies, providing a very good background and solid understanding of this subject.

Great introduction

I have read lots of introductory and advanced dsp books. In my opinion this book is the best book when it comes to learning fundamentals. This was the book along with the book i'll mention later which allowed me to read and understand more advanced books. Explanations are clear and supported with lots of figures and worked examples. Even though software examples provided on it's disk is very primitive and dated, they are still very helpful for beginners. (Source codes available and perfect for validating your understanding about formulas and calculations) I strongly recommend it. Understanding Digital Signal Processing (2nd Edition) by Richard G. Lyons is also great. If possible buy both otherwise buy this one.

About the Author

John L. Worrall is Professor of Criminology and Program Head at the University of Texas at Dallas. A Seattle native, he received both his M.A. (criminal justice) and Ph.D. (political science) from Washington State University, where he graduated in 1999. From 1999 to 2006, he was a member of the criminal justice faculty at California State University, San Bernardino.� He joined University of Texas at Dallas in� the fall of 2006. Dr. Worrall has published articles and book chapters on a variety of topics, ranging from legal issues in policing to crime measurement. He is also the author or coauthor of numerous textbooks, including Introduction to Criminal Justice (with Larry J. Siegel, 13th ed., Cengage, 2012) and Criminal Procedure: From First Contact to Appeal (4th ed., Prentice Hall, 2013); coeditor of The Changing Role of the American Prosecutor (SUNY, 2009); and editor of the journal Police Quarterly.

Moore is Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice at DeSales University in Center Valley, Pennsylvania.� She obtained her B.A. in government from Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire, and her J.D. with honors from Emory University School of Law in Atlanta, Georgia.� Prior to entering academics, Professor Moore practiced at a large law firm in Atlanta, Georgia.� Her legal practice included corporate litigation, antitrust litigation, and white-collar criminal defense.� Professor Moore has also published articles on a wide range of legal topics, with a specific focus on criminal-law issues.

A Rwandan proverb says “Defeat is the only bad news.” For Rwandans living under colonial rule, winning called not only for armed confrontation, but also for a battle of wits—and not only with foreigners, but also with each other. In Defeat Is the Only Bad News Alison Des Forges recounts the ambitions, strategies, and intrigues of an African royal court under Yuhi Musinga, the Rwandan ruler from 1896 to 1931. These were turbulent years for Rwanda, when first Germany and then Belgium pursued an aggressive plan of colonization there. At the time of the Europeans’ arrival, Rwanda was also engaged in a succession dispute after the death of one of its most famous kings. Against this backdrop, the Rwandan court became the stage for a drama of Shakespearean proportions, filled with deceit, shrewd calculation, ruthless betrayal, and sometimes murder.

�� Historians who study European expansion typically focus on interactions between colonizers and colonized; they rarely attend to relations among the different factions inhabiting occupied lands. Des Forges, drawing on oral histories and extensive archival research, reveals how divisions among different groups in Rwanda shaped their responses to colonial governments, missionaries, and traders. Rwandans, she shows, used European resources to extend their power, even as they sought to preserve the autonomy of the royal court. Europeans, for their part, seized on internal divisions to advance their own goals. It is impossible to imagine this disgusting book as the title suggests,was written by the same Allison DesForges,who we all saw on CNN talking about the horrors of Rwanda.When I confronted her about the choice of this sarcastic title,she agreed that the title was inappropriate.She passed away before our scheduled meeting to discuss the issue.From what I have learned from those who knew her when she wrote the book,it could have been the tresult of her Belgian colonial sponsors,who were eager to use naive young American students,whom they used to cover up their colonial atrocities in the Congo,Rwanda and Burundi.The book is a misguided attack on Rwanda, especially King Musinga Himself with his chiefs and elders,whom she presents as tyrants who had abused Rwandans until when the Europeans came to their rescue! Every word she said on CNN during the genocide,was a direct contradiction of what she had written trashing Rwanda in this book.
Don't waste your money buying this book,that continues to confuse the world about Rwanda.

Yes, this is the book you need

You might have noticed that the number of autodidactic Gujarati products is rather limited. However, this out of print little handbook is exactly the product that you need. If you can get the audio that came with the original package it would be great - but you should be able to figure things out by using online resources.

The book is divided into two sections. The first section teaches you the basics and allows you to skip learning the script. The second section gets pretty advanced and is almost 100% in Gujarati script. Even though it is a compact book, it is over 300 pages and it is very dense material. You might spend several hours working through just one page. It is clearly layed out and progresses steadily from the complete basics to a relatively advanced level.

Perhaps they will give us a second printing someday.

A good basic textbook for beginners

A straightforward, modern introduction to the language. Dwyer provides both romanized transcriptions and Gujarati script for the first half of the book, then relies entirely on Gujarati script for the second half. Note that the book is available both with and without accompanying cassettes.

Best All Round Gujarati Grammar

My girlfriend and I both are using Rachel Dwyer's book to improve our Gujarati. I come from a Gujarati background and can read the script. I use the book to address all my grammar problems with gender and verb agreement. My girlfriend, who does not have a Gujarati background, uses the book as an introduction to the language and has found the English transliterations which appear next to the Gujarati script especially useful. As a comparison, Kirit N. Shah's "Learn Gujarati" is geared towards children, has a superior section on learning the script and has a nice little collection of poetry in the back. But Dwyer's book is by far the best book in print for an adult trying to learn the grammar.
