About the Author
Norman F. Cheville, DVM, PhD, is Professor Emeritus of Veterinary Pathology at Iowa State University. A great finale to Laurie's story!!!

Embrace is the best of endings for Laurie's story. At times throughout the story I cried crocodile tears. By the time I finished I was pleasantly surprised with the journey that Laurie had taken and where she ended up. Embrace is endearing, passionately, and leaves a message of forgiveness and redemption. The actions that occurred in the marriage were destructive, but in the end lessons were learned for both Laurie and her husband.

I usually don't get overexcited about books dealing with cheating. Entice and Embrace represent much more than that. How S. Layne dealt with the story line, character definitions, conflicts, and resolutions gave Embrace such a high rating. The story was more than surviving the damage of an affair, it was about thriving in midst of the tidal wave of destruction.

I loved how S. Layne defined the characters in the story. Take Laurie for instance. When Laurie first found out about her husband's indiscretion, she was weak and made decisions based upon emotions. Very poor decisions in fact. Then we have her husband James who knew he did wrong but made no corrections to chance the environment he was in. Finally, we have Liam who was a non-committed sort of person that provided Laurie with the recognition that she was attractive as her self-worth had been hit. As the story progresses we get to see a change in the characters. Laurie starts to learn to thrive on her own. James takes a lesson in selflessness. Now Liam, he kind of kept fighting harder to keep Laurie. She was almost like a possession to him. I had no idea which way the story would go. What I knew was that Laurie and James were growing up and learning from their mistakes. I liked how S. Layne did that with the characters. We are able to see a new side to James, Laurie, and Liam.

S. Layne also keeps the flow of the story well-paced. Readers get just enough background information to not overwhelm them. Then from there we see the inner struggles that occur from being the transgressor and the one wrong. I believe watching the characters fight the devastation and overcome hurdles was a huge plus. I felt like I was sitting right beside the character feeling what they were feeling, even James and Liam. As far as reading the debate going on in Laurie's head made me want to cry when she cried, get angry with her, and laugh when she laughed.

Keeping everything I just mentioned in mind, I give Embrace a solid 5 STAR rating. It was a novel that is worth the time spent reading. One suggestion though; block a certain time for reading Embrace for once you start you will want to keep reading until the end.

Great follow up to Entice!

“How and I supposed to win a battle when I don’t know what I’m fighting?”
“I’m not something to win,” I whisper, although my words are clear.
He shakes his head once. “You’re everything.”

I thought this book was an awesome follow up to Entice, I wasn’t sure which way the story was going to be taken but I really loved where it ended up going! This book picks up pretty much right where the first book left off after Laurie learns of the latest betrayal at the hands of a man (or men) she trusted. I won’t say what it was in case you haven’t read Entice yet but it’s left her again in a position where she’s questioning everything and left having to figure out what to do to move forward. I don’t envy her for the situation she was in and the choices she is now facing but I felt that she handled it with such strength and I really respected her and her decisions.

At the end of the first book I was conflicted with which team I was on and who I wanted her to end up with. On the one hand we have the familiarity of James, her extremely apologetic yet one-time unfaithful husband, with whom she had been with since they were teenagers and whom she still loves despite all that’s happened. And on the other hand we have the sexy and mysterious Liam that she shared several steamy nights with trying to forget the mess that was her marriage. Much like her I was very torn between the man she’s always known and the prospect of the new and unknown.

When a family emergency comes into play she discovers which man will stand by her side and help her pick up the pieces. I have to say, I was not expecting it to go the way it did but I am sooooo happy with her choice. By about 25% into the book I knew who I wanted her to end up with, so I was very happy it turned out the way it did. It was all so believable and I know that if I were in her shoes I would have done the same thing, which really helped me connect with Laurie and with the story as a whole.

As I’ve come to expect from S. Layne/Stacey Lynn, the writing was so strong and even though the book wasn’t overly long, it was packed with emotion. I finished the book last night and even now, I get a little emotional sitting back and thinking of Laurie’s journey. As a married woman, I think this book is a little scary to think about because no one wants to find themselves in Laurie’s situation and putting yourself in Laurie’s shoes is a hard place to be but Ms. Layne not only heals Laurie’s heart by the end of the book but she also healed the reader’s heart along the way.

I really enjoyed this book, both books actually, and I look forward to Talia’s story. I also hope that we get more from a certain other character from this book because there is still a lot I want to know there!

A MUST read for all!!!

I think I may have loved this book better then the first one (Entice) if that's even possible!!! In Entice we left Laurie on the fence on how to move forward with her life! She had her (ex) husband, James and Liam both in the picture. This is a continuation of that story. We are able to follow Laurie's journey through life, love and eventually happiness.

This book filled me with so many emotions! I loved, I hated then I loved some more. It goes to show that we are just human and make mistakes. It's how we recover from those mistakes and our actions that mean the most. I'd actually give this higher then 5 stars if I could because I loved it THAT much and I think everyone should put this on their to be read list!!

About the Author
Karen Timberlake is Professor Emerita of chemistry at Los Angeles Valley College, where she taught chemistry for allied health and preparatory chemistry for 36 years. She received her bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the University of Washington and her master’s degree in biochemistry from the University of California at Los Angeles.

Professor Timberlake has been writing chemistry textbooks for 35 years. During that time, her name has become associated with the strategic use of pedagogical tools that promote student success in chemistry and the application of chemistry to real-life situations. More than one million students have learned chemistry using texts, laboratory manuals, and study guides written by Karen Timberlake. In addition to General, Organic, and Biological Chemistry: Structures of Life, Fourth Edition, she is also the author of Basic Chemistry, Third Edition, and Chemistry: An Introduction to General, Organic, and Biological Chemistry, Eleventh Edition with the accompanying Study Guide, Selected Solutions Manual, Laboratory Manual, and Essential Laboratory Manual.

Professor Timberlake belongs to numerous science and educational organizations including the American Chemical Society (ACS) and the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA). She was the Western Regional Winner of Excellence in College Chemistry Teaching Award given by the Chemical Manufacturers Association. Good for review and reference

My friend A. Simone bought this book, and this is what she had to say about it: Chemistry is typically a tough subject for many people, but this book makes it very easy to understand. I used this book for my chemistry class and loved it. This book was very helpful to me throughout the course. At my college, we had the condensed version of this book which only contained the topics we would need. My version of this book was still very large. The size of the book may be intimidating, but it is written very well. It explains the easier concepts nicely, but also breaks down the harder topics for a better understanding. My favorite part about this textbook was the graphics. All the graphs, tables, charts, and diagrams were great to refer to, especially for visual learners like myself.

Although, I did not use this book on a daily basis, my purpose for it was to review or refer back to it. I had an excellent teacher, who made the material fun and easier to learn. The practice problems in the book are very helpful as well. They vary in difficulty, ensuring that you will know how to do simple and harder problems of the same topic.

Even though I did not use this book as the bulk of my studying material, it is definitely very useful and resourceful. If someone had to use this book to teach themselves or read chapter by chapter, it wouldn't be difficult to do. The way the book is organized makes it simple to follow along.

The most useful thing about this textbook was the conversion charts in the back of the book. I used this a lot for homework and studying. It has everything from metric conversions, temperature conversions, molarity conversions, ionization energy, periodic table, and many other conversions or numbers needed to do equations with.

You can’t beat the price that Amazon sells it for. I think this book is worth every penny. This is also a great textbook to have on hand, especially if you plan to take a higher level chemistry or even biology or anatomy classes. I think this book is a good reference, and I plan to keep it for the rest of my college career. With that being said, I would recommend buying this book instead of renting it.

Every page in this book truly looks like it would in the printed version, except perhaps that the images seem even clearer, more sharp. Navigation is incredibly easy, I don't have to struggle to find a specific page, or to flip from one to the next, the pages all load immediately and the table of contents is a touch away, but also hidden until you need it. I bought the Kindle book so I wouldn't have to carry around a heavy textbook, and because I can still do everything I can do with a printed book (highlight, bookmark, etc) without having to worry about damaging it. The downside is I can't re-sell it, and it does not come with the access code, or anything really, just the book itself.

Really great book in helping you understand chemistry. The concept checks, sample problems, and study checks really help check your understanding, as well as all the problems included in each chapter. This book is geared towards students headed in the medical field, and does a great job tying together chemistry with real life.

Este libro de Arturo Alape es una pieza maestra.

En gran parte, el valor de esta obra esta en la calidad del relato y la honestidad del escritor.

Claridad, porque en un poco mas de 600 paginas el lector puede trasladarse a la Bogota de los a�os 40, justo antes y despues del Bogotazo. Y el lector lo hace al "oir" las voces de los protagonistas principales de este triste acontecimiento de la historia colombiana.

Honestidad, porque es dificil encontrar alguna agenda pol�tica en el relato. El libro es simplemente una coleccion de testimonios -- desde el Presidente Ospina hasta los dirigentes liberales; desde los diplom�ticos americanos hasta Fidel Castro. Inteligentemente, el autor se abstiene tomar partido. Por el contrario, Alape alterna elegantemente las voces de unos y otros. De esta manera, el autor puede abrir una ventana al cuarto oscuro dentro del cual se mueven los hilos del poder. En lugar de juzgar quienes son buenos o quienes son malos, Alape presenta lo que cada faccion daba por cierto. Dicho de otra manera, Alape revela las creencias que cada uno de los actores consideraban como la verdad absoluta (sobre ellos y sobre sus contrincantes pol�ticos). Lo que queda claro despues de lee reste libro es que no existi� un consenso sobre lo que estaba pasando en el pais en ese momento. (Lo que no debe sorprender al lector, pues despues de 60 a�os todavia es dificil entender lo que pas�.)

Ademas, este libro se aparta sagazmente del f�til intento de resolver quien mato a Gaitan o por que lo mataron. Una vez esto es claro, es muy facil apreciar este libro por lo que es: un trabajo cuidadoso, exahustivo y coherente acerca de El Bogotazo.

comprehensive introduction to SPSS

SPSS is quite a powerful statistical package. If you have never used it, or any other stats package for that matter, then George and Mallery offer a comprehensive introduction to both SPSS and statistics.

The book emphasises what you can do at the graphical level, with the SPSS user interface. Myriad screen captures of menu options, panels and the like. These are given in the context of many tasks that you can do. You should also look at the graphing capabilities. In statistics, visualisation is often necessary, in order to understand the data.

As far as statistical theory goes, what is here is really a summary. There is no attempt at proving theorems, for example. But where SPSS shines is in making easily available lots of functions that can be applied to your data. Quicker than you having to code this in some other language.

The book does not touch on more advanced and specialised packages available within SPSS. For these, you might look up Norusis' texts. She has written several that are definitive expositions. Another possibility is to look up Using SPSS for Windows and Macintosh: Analyzing and Understanding Data (5th Edition). The presentation in the latter is somewhat like this book, but a little more advanced.

I wish I had this book in my first SPSS class. It is very simple to understand and it takes you step by step with good practice exercises at the end of each section.

Concise summary of best practices and useful advice

This book is concise but salient details are not omitted. The authors' experience with Fortran is clearly evident in the exposition and presentation of the material. As a novice to Fortran (although not to programming) I found that I needed to spend a day reading Metcalf's 'Modern Fortran Explained,' which is also quite good, before I could completely understand the examples but aside from the basics no previous understanding is assumed. I find myself referring to this book often and appreciate the ability to draw from the authors' expertise. Overall the practices and solutions presented are of very high quality.

Transform from competent to good

I am an experienced programmer, but, before reading this book, considered myself to be only a 'competent' Fortran programmer. I now feel that the Fortran code I write is of better quality, and that I am adhering to best practices.
