Each method described has comments on its suitability for specific strength improvement based on years of my own observations and diaries on performance for myself and the individuals I’ve coached in boxing, weight lifting and power lifting. In developing greater strength in any movement most books on the subject neglect the most important organ responsible for muscular strength development, the brain. Your own brain is the major driver in the construction process, it’s not simply a matter of lifting weights. You need to train intelligently using your mind to enhance your central nervous system capability as well as applying appropriate nutrition and rest periods. A standard approach will only work well with a percentage of individuals and finding what works for you and what does not is also important. Experimenting with the various techniques available is essential to maximise progress and avoid the many common mistakes. Most trainees are never made aware of the simple mistakes that will hold them back from getting anywhere near their full potential, simply because many instructors and coaches are stuck with limited knowledge, and in many cases a lack of actual practical experience. Sadly many are often unaware of the true nature of strength development and rarely if ever see the process through from beginner to competitive athlete and champion. This book is not about endurance or general fitness, it’s unashamedly aimed directly at the development of strength for weight lifting, power lifting and strength sports. Most of the information within has never been published in such comparative detail anywhere and with comments on practicality and effectiveness for all the techniques and methods it will ensure you understand the relevant concepts in developing sound and efficient training plans. About the Author
Paul Kerridge has been involved in boxing weightlifting and powerlifting as an athlete and as a coach for over 40 years. He admits to having made all the mistakes possible along the way, but learnt from them all. Following considerable national and international success as a coach in recent years he decided to write this book. Learn from his experience and avoid the simple pitfalls that will hold you back.

This book is a very thorough discussion on some of todays popular powerlifting methods, such as
the repeated effort method, maximal effort method and the dynamic method.

He then goes into some other training systems which I myself have wondered if it would work in a powerlifting program. I'm talking about static contractions, super slow and power factor method. He tells us how he
succesfully used them in a powerlifting program. For many of them he also gives a complete training program
using these systems.

He talks about "hangovers" (his word for reaching a point in training where we are not recovering and progressing) and how to spot them and what to do about them.

He speaks on a few forms of periodization, and how to set up a program. He also gives some sample
programs for each the different types of periodization.

The only slight drawback is his writing is a little wordy - but don't let that hold you back.
This book has a LOT of good info.

This is a very well written book with an amazing amount of updated and relevent training information inside. I have been working out with weights for over 37 years now and I have probably read somewhere between 50 to 100 books on the subject and this one definetly ranks up near the top with the very best.I highly recomend this book.

The book has all the training programs related to bodybuilding and strength training. It is not meant for drug users.
